Healthy skepticism is smart. Here's how to check everything we say without trusting us at all.

  • Look up the record yourself. California's official search is at claimit.ca.gov (run by the State Controller). County surplus funds appear on each county treasurer's official .gov site. If we told you about a record, it's there.
  • Note what we never ask for. No upfront payment, no gift cards, no wire transfers, no bank logins, no pressure to "act in the next 24 hours." Any of those is a red flag.
  • Call us back on our published number. Real businesses answer with their real name. You're always welcome to hang up and call back.
  • Take your time. Government-held funds don't disappear overnight. Anyone who creates artificial urgency doesn't have your interests in mind.
